Songs of Glimmerwick Beginner Tips & Controls
Practical things the developer has confirmed in patch notes and announcements — useful for the free demo today and for launch day.
Your demo save carries over. The developer confirmed twice (April 5 and June 15, 2026) that
you can continue from your demo save once the full game is out. No need to replay the opening.
Controls worth knowing
| Action | Keyboard & mouse | Controller |
|---|---|---|
| Open the map | M | Click the right stick |
| Back out of menus, close books and notes | Esc | — |
- Full controller support is listed on Steam. PlayStation button prompts were still being worked on in April 2026, so some icons may show the wrong button.
- Non-US keyboards got their own default key bindings in demo version 0.465.
How the clock works
- The clock stops while you are in the player menu or in shops.
- It does not stop while you are playing your flute — that is deliberate. Practise songs in the practice rooms in the music classroom instead.
- Time freezes during story events and every evening, so there is far less time pressure than in a typical farming sim.
The music minigame is optional
- You do not need any stars in the music minigame to cast a spell.
- Each song has two star levels: learned (easy to get) and perfected (harder). You get better with practice — songs are not meant to be perfected on the first try.
- If you struggle, there is an extra help option for the music minigame in the options menu.
- The first song you learn is the Song of Tilling; it was made easier in version 0.484.
About the demo
The demo is the first few hours of the full game and runs over two hours. Players rated it highly: the developer reported a median score of 9 on their public feedback form.
